Identify Appropriate EDI
Transaction Set

Determine the appropriate business document that the EDI transaction will replace.

Execute Trading Partner Agreement
Submit and approve Trading Partner Agreement.

Determine Internal Application System Information Flow
Analysis must be performed to identify business systems that would interface with EDI. This analysis should also identify how information would flow between the respective business systems and EDI.

Analyze Internal Business Systems
Once the respective business systems are identified, an analysis must be done to determine what changes, if any, need to be implemented to support the EDI interface.

Develop Trading Partner Profile
Build the necessary trading partner profile components, including application definitions, transaction maps, partner profiles and partner cross references.

Develop Service Requirements
Outline system recovery procedures and fall back measures, as well as an error recovery process, network response time requirements, incident reporting and escalation procedures.

Perform Preliminary Testing with Internal Data
Test the EDI infrastructure and associated application interfaces utilizing data generated internally.

Perform Testing with EDI Trading Partner
Test the EDI infrastructure and associated application interfaces utilizing data generated by the trading partner (inbound) or by the application (outbound).

Review Test Results with Project Participants
Test results should be reviewed by all project participants to ensure that the project objectives were satisfied and to discuss any remaining issues.

Migrate to Parallel Environment
All programs (Cobol, Harbinger modules, etc.) are to be migrated to the parallel environment once the testing process has been successfully completed. During parallel testing, results of EDI transmissions are compared to the current non-EDI method by project participants.

Migrate to Production Environment
Once all project participants are satisfied with parallel testing, all programs (Cobol, Harbinger modules, etc.) are to be migrated or changed to the production environment.
