| Overview |
|
Users of Canon’s next-generation, MEAP-enabled imageRUNNER devices can now seamlessly and securely merge paper documents into almost any electronic workflow with eCopy ShareScan OP (Open Platform). With eCopy ShareScan OP, all of the document scanning and distribution features are accessible from the control panel of the MEAP-enabled imageRUNNER, eliminating the need for additional hardware. In addition, eCopy’s ScanStation OP product comprised of an integrated, free standing touch screen, keyboard, and PC may also be configured for Canon MEAP devices.
eCopy ShareScan OP for Canon MEAP offers similar document imaging and distribution functionality to the current eCopy ScanStation OP (available from IKON for Ricoh, HP, and Canon copiers), however the software is embedded in the MEAP-enabled imageRUNNER device. The “controlling” software runs on a server PC and utilizes the architecture of Canon’s next-generation MEAP-enabled imageRUNNER products for the client end, which also provides the control panel/user interface. In addition, eCopy ShareScan OP offers enhanced administration and management tools, giving you the ability to easily and dynamically manage multiple MEAP-enabled imageRUNNERs from one administrative workstation.
eCopy ShareScan OP has an intuitive look and feel with the user interface, complete with document preview, address book integration (natively or with LDAP support), security, encryption, activity logging, third party connectors and the ability to set file formats on-the-fly. All these features are now accessible directly from the control panel of the MEAP-enabled imageRUNNER.
eCopy ShareScan OP software is comprised of three components:
- eCopy ShareScan OP Client: Installs on your MEAP-enabled Canon imageRUNNER device and communicates with the Services Manager to display the user interface and control scanning.
- eCopy ShareScan OP Services Manager: Resides on a networked PC and manages all connected MEAP-enabled devices and Connectors.
- eCopy ShareScan OP Administration Console: Resides on the same networked PC as the eCopy ShareScan OP Services Manager and manages and configures the servers, clients and Connectors.
Among the many benefits of using eCopy ShareScan OP for Canon MEAP:
- Maximum utilization of Canon MEAP-enabled imageRUNNER devices; document imaging and distribution of critical paper documents such as PDF, TIFF, or CPY files over your local network at Internet speed
- Seamless integration of paper documents with your existing enterprise applications
- Instant business processes improvement and significantly enhanced productivity
- The flexibility to configure multiple Canon MEAP-enabled imageRUNNER devices from one central location
- Network updates are reflected automatically at all eCopy-enabled devices, reducing the need for IT administration
- Send paper documents securely: password authentication at the device creates audit trails and helps meet compliance regulations
- Reduced paper consumption and storage costs
- Rapid deployment and ease of administration
- An intuitive, user-friendly interface requiring minimal training
Note: eCopy ShareScan OP for Canon MEAP will not support non-Canon devices. Canon non-MEAP-enabled devices can be supported by the current eCopy ScanStation OP. Users of Ricoh Aficio devices should consider eCopy ScanStation OP or Ricoh GlobalScan. IKON DocSend will support both Canon and Ricoh non-MEAP devices.
What is MEAP? MEAP (Multifunctional Embedded Application Platform) is a Canon-developed, Java-based platform for which embedded applications can be specifically written, installed and run within an imageRUNNER device. With MEAP:
- Applications can reside on the imageRUNNER hard disk drive or a backend server, eliminating the need, space and expense for many dedicated pieces of equipment to execute customized programs.
- Applications are easily accessible to walk-up users within the full-color LCD control panel of MEAP-enabled imageRUNNERs.

eCopy ShareScan OP is a cost-effective document imaging and distribution solution for customers who currently own or are replacing their copiers with Canon MEAP-enabled devices.
Based on a client-server model, eCopy ShareScan OP software provides businesses with a centrally managed solution for converting paper documents into more manageable, easily routable digital formats. Unlike similar products, the eCopy ShareScan OP Services Manager does not have to run on a server. All you need is a MEAP device and a networked PC to manage the interaction of the device and your enterprise application connectors.
Installation is easy. The OP Client software is designed to be embedded in the MEAP device and can be installed from a web browser. The OP Services Manager and Administrative Console software can be installed on any standard networked PC.
eCopy ShareScan OP is designed to support multiple Canon MEAP devices from a single Windows-based computer; the number of devices depends on a number of variables, including expected usage, available CPU and memory size (please review “System Requirements/Max. Number of Supported Devices” under Specifications for more details).
Additional eCopy ShareScan OP features offer increased flexibility for integrating paper documents into your business processes and creating an efficient workflow:
- eCopy Quick Connect: Bundled with the base product, eCopy Quick Connect offers connectivity to numerous business applications that fit the unique needs of each customers workflow.
- eCopy Software Developer Kit (Optional): Allows more advanced application integration.
