Remanufacturing Process
Reconditioned/Remanufactured Products Products Program The equipment available through this program has been pre-selected from IKON’s inventory of used products based on strict eligibility criteria that include performance history and meter counts. For those machines with very low meter counts, a refreshing process is employed at a regional facility and equipment meters are not reset. In other cases, a more extensive remanufacturing process is applied using additional parts, which results in a new meter. All units undergoing the remanufacturing process are remanufactured using our carefully controlled ISO 9001:2000-certified process to help meet high customer performance expectations at low price points.

Before any piece of Certified Remanufactured equipment or toner cartridge is sold, certified IKON technicians apply an extensive 120-step cleaning and remanufacturing process, replacing all high-wear components and adjusting the units back to original factory specifications.

Process Details For Remanufacturing Process
Chassis Tear Down and Cleaning
Before delivery to the production area, all equipment undergoes a disassembly and cleaning process. Panels are removed and undergo repair and refinishing. Major sub-assemblies such as feed units, document feeders, duplex units, etc. are removed from the main frame. After disassembly, both the chassis and subcomponents of each machine are cleaned using an air-lance dust removal technique followed by hand-cleaning. Once cleaned, the chassis and associated sub-assemblies are covered and staged for movement to the production line.

Initial Production Stage
Upon entering the production area, each machine and its respective subassemblies are further disassembled and cleaned. New parts and certain factory modifications are installed. Parts are divided into two categories, either mandatory or optional. Mandatory parts include those parts that have been deemed high attrition based on field usage. Optional parts are those items showing wear after careful examination. Static adjustments such as clearances, belt tensions, etc. are made. After the completion of work in a given station, the unit or subassembly undergoes an inprocess audit, before traveling to the next process step.

Checklists are designed to ensure that critical adjustments and assembly points are performed properly, avoiding problems later in the process or in the field. In-process audits are documented and retained as quality records in our ISO 9001:2000 system.

Final Production Stage
The reassembled unit is powered up and initial testing begins. Activities in this area include electrical troubleshooting and adjustment, image quality and registration adjustment, and final assembly of items such as panels and labels. During this final production stage, prescribed paper runs and adjustments are made, and any anomalies that may surface are corrected.

Final Inspection
After release from the production area, our independent quality assurance group inspects all copiers and sorters. This is a three-step process, involving careful visual inspection of cosmetic appearance, so the units will appear new. The first step involves a paper run. Paper runs are designed to test for proper paper and original handling and ensure that any special features function as designed. The second step involves a review of general operations. The final step provides a final image quality inspection and package. Any problems found are repaired, root cause analysis is performed and corrective action is taken. This inspection process is updated and improved as knowledge is gained.

Underwriters Laboratory Testing
Before final release, all machines undergo safety testing specified by UL. After testing is complete and successful, each unit receives IKON’s UL marking file number E202090.

Certification You Can Trust
IKON recently received certification for the new ISO 9001:2000 quality management system standard from the British Standards Institution (BSI, Inc.), an accredited registrar. BSI is the oldest and most recognized registration firm in the world, working with manufacturing and service industries, businesses and governments to facilitate the production of British, European and International standards. BSI operates independently of government, industry and trade organizations, and is qualified to deliver certification to companies who have met the ISO 9000 series management standards published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
