DIGITAL AND EFFICIENT
UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH MEDICAL CENTER

At the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), IKON displaced a strong incumbent vendor with an even stronger combination of technology, service, and workflow design. An organization managing 20 hospitals and a major health plan, UPMC also runs one of the largest digital print operations in western Pennsylvania, generating some 10 million impressions per month. IKON’s high-volume plan placed three Canon imageRUNNER 150s in UPMC’s print shop and three more in the data center, a configuration that offered considerable resilience. IKON’s solution also yielded advantages in terms of cost of ownership, for instance by migrating production of forms from an offset press to a digital on-demand process, saving warehousing and money. “Two key reasons IKON won this business were their flexibility in structuring a solution to meet our needs and the knowledge and professional tenacity of their people,” says Jeff Szymanski, Associate Director, Data Center Operations, with UPMC.

IKON supports its production equipment with the widest range of front-end enablers available—many of them IKON exclusives—multiplying the power and efficiency of the equipment. Added to the IKON portfolio late in 2002, the Canon imageRUNNER 150 has been a success, further strengthening IKON’s high volume solutions portfolio. In recent years, IKON has consistently gained market share in the high volume market, which continues to represent one of our most promising areas of growth.
